The article considers the participation of the Austria-Hungarian army in the act of war against the armed forces of Montenegro in the First World War. Particular attention is given to preparations and the execution of the 1916 Lovcenska operation, which led to the military and political collapse of the Montenegrin State. The author critically analyzes the legend stating the transient fall of the Balkan Kingdom was due to the treason by the Petrović-Njegoš ruling dynasty.
